Donald Trump Jr met Russian lawyer who promised Clinton information
The son of US President Donald Trump acknowledged meeting a Russian lawyer last year, said he promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton.
But Donald Trump Jr. said Natalia Veselnitskaya had given no “significant” element to the presidential candidate.
Also at the meeting, the New York Times reported, was the son of the Republic, Jared Kushner, then campaign leader, Paul J Manafort.
US officials are investigating Russia’s alleged interference in the US election.
The FBI and Congress both studied whether those responsible for the Trump collusion campaign with a supposed Kremlin conspiracy to undermine the Clinton campaign. Research has not yet demonstrated collusion.
The meeting with Ms. Veselnitskaya, who had ties to the Kremlin, was held June 9, 2016 at Trump Tower in New York, just two weeks after Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.
It is supposed to be the first confirmed private date between a Russian national and a member of President Trump’s inner circle.
After the New York Times first reported Saturday meeting, M. Trump Jr. and his wife Veselnitskaya confirmed, but said the US presidential campaign was not discussed.
On Sunday, the Times said that Mr. Trump Jr had accepted the meeting after receiving information that could affect Clinton, the Democratic candidate at the time.
The paper quoted three White House advisers about the meeting, and two other people who have knowledge as sources.
The meeting was held at the Trump Tower in New York in 2016
In a statement Sunday celebrated, M. Trump Jr said an acquaintance she had met during the Miss Universe 2013 contest was asked to meet “an individual who was told he could have useful information in the field.”
“I can not say his name before the meeting. I asked Jared [Kushner] and Paul [Manafort] to attend, but I told them no substance.
“After the compliments were exchanged, the woman said she had information that people linked to Russia funded the Democratic National Committee and Clinton’s support.
“Their statements were vague, ambiguous and did not make any sense.” No details or supporting information were provided or even offered. It soon became apparent that there was important information “-t, he added.
M. Trump Jr said Veselnitskaya then sends the conversation to a suspension program for Americans to adopt Russian children.
“It became clear to me that this was true throughout the program and that potentially useful information claims were a pretext for the meeting.”
The Times said that M. Trump Jr. told the newspaper in March that he had met any Russian citizen to discuss issues related to the campaign.
For the first time, it seems there is direct evidence that three people in the inner circle of US President Donald Trump met a well-connected Russian before the presidential election in the campaign – including the possibility of damaging information on Democrat Hillary Clinton – Was discussed.
Donald Trump Jr. denied that anything relevant has come out of the meeting, but it could be irrelevant. Intention is the key, and this can lead to a single part of a particularly unworthy puzzle.
These are also troubling news for the other two actors involved – son Jared Kushner and campaign president Paul J Manafort – both of whom are involved in their own Russia-related disputes.
